Virtual 3D distraction and orthognatic surgery planning, Hong Kong.
04-11-2006
Lecturer: Swennen G.R.J., MD DMD PhD
A fully booked course with 30 participants took place in the beautiful simulation laboratory of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital.
After
a general introduction of the basic pillars of 3D cephalometry, a first
hands-on session allowed the participants to perform small 3D
cephalometric analyses in Maxilim. Furthermore Dr. Swennen gave
detailed information concerning mandibular and craniofacial
osteotomies. Two hands-on sessions trained the participants in using
different osteotomy tools in Maxilim. Several types of osteotomies were
virtually performed by the participants themselves.
To conclude this exciting day, the transfer of the virtual planning to the operation theatre was handled and advice was given for avoiding pitfalls.
We thank Prof. L.K. Cheung for supporting this course!
